God's
Glory, My Story
by Tonja Taylor
Lasting Legacy
"Boy you
are hardheaded!" the Lord told me firmly but gently a few months
ago, when I was praying for His will to be made clear. My literary
intention is always to advance the Kingdom, but it took Him months
to teach me that I was in rebellion, greed, and unbelief as I tried
to make the wrong type of writing my mission.
I'd published
many works, but the books-to-be and many more potential pieces were
still in paper piles, embryos awaiting my attention to grow into
their destinies.
I'd get to them,
when the time was right.
While working
on my first book, LEGACY, I decided to be more
efficient for the Kingdom: become a commercial writer, make a lot
of money for less work, then have more time for what I really l
wanted to do—take my babies and grow them.
Good idea, I
thought.
I worked hard.
Did everything I was supposed to. And a year later, as I lamented
over Isaiah 49:4, I knew copywriting had not been a God idea. But
the book was a God idea. So I started spending more time on that.
Then I had another
good idea: write for the US government as I completed LEGACY.
Halfway during the process, God said, "The government is on
His shoulders." (Isaiah 9:6)
Yes, Lord. I
hear You. sigh
Meanwhile, I
did the final rough for LEGACY. One night I decided
to work instead on sorting through the piles of paper. I worshipped
and prayed and read, amazed at some of the things I'd written, and
remembered a conversation with my 10-year-old daughter about how
partial obedience is disobedience.
My understanding
blossomed—quietly,
unmistakably. The scraps of paper I held in my hands were divine,
for they were revelation. I had a flash of people in other countries
cherishing a single ragged page of the Word, priceless treasure
to them. And I asked my LORD to forgive me for despising what He
had written through me, and thanked Him for making me a royal scribe
(Matt.13:52). His idea was the best. He wanted me to complete the
works He'd already given me, and He would provide.
So with joy,
I've begun, with new vigor and great joy. LEGACY
is complete, and I'm working on my second book, as well as feeding
the rest of my children. I will bring them to maturity!
We are all created
and called to write for different groups in various ways, to reach
them as only we can. Let us, as Lee Roddy stated, "Write to
make Heaven different."
